THE GALLERY HAS REOPENED!

Good Afternoon GAC family, friends and members.

Welcome to fall, and welcome back to your gallery. It has been a long time since you visited.

The “buzz” around our return to The Georgina Studio Tour and soft reopening has been loud and clear and has taken us to the next steps.

The Board of Directors and I struggled with the question “How do we manage what we are told could be the new norm?” We wanted to be confident that reopening the gallery was the correct decision. At our recent Board of Directors meeting a vote was taken, the decision was unanimous and it was decided that the hours of operation for the gallery in the immediate would be:

Thursday 10:00 am 4:00 pm
Friday 1:00 pm – 7:00 pm
Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

We have been working closely with the Town of Georgina specific to the required protocols and we are ready. I would like to thank them for their enormous support. We will continue to work with them moving forward. They too are invested in their gallery.

As CERB was ending we wanted to support our staff in their return to work. The financial impact of a much reduced work week is not lost on our Board of Directors. The increase in the number of Covid19 cases is having an enormous impact on all of us. In an effort to decrease these numbers the Provincial Government is reducing the number of individuals allowed in public spaces. The reduction from 25 including staff to 10 is huge. This announcement has impacted our ability to deliver programming, manage our retail and engage in fundraising efforts. That being said, our priority must be to keep our staff and community safe. We can only see this decision as a positive one as we move forward working within the parameters that seem to change daily.

In speaking with the Mayor on Georgina Life last week we acknowledged that nothing was happening as quickly as we wanted it to. Reopening the doors is more than turning the key in the lock. We all need to be patient.

Georgina together we are strong! Community engagement is what we do! Creativity is an essential part of a healthy, vibrant community and that is who we are!

On behalf of all of us at the GAC thank you for your continued support and we look forward to seeing you soon.

Grant Peckford,
Executive Director

In the Main Gallerycheck opening times at the bottom of this page.

Sherry is from the Kijicho-Manito Madaouskarini Algonquin First Nation. She believes that through art we can connect all people, because seeing art and creating is a healing process. Sherry enjoys painting with acrylic on canvas, digital paintings, oil and pencil drawing. She has always enjoyed the creative process and always takes on a new challenge if it is an art form. Sherry shares an important teaching about her communities. It is done with “stones”, representing our beautiful people. It is about the effects of residential school in a very respectful and powerful way. She also shares a “talking stick” workshop, which is a wonderful tool to learn respectful communication and to be creative.
